Meet Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County’s newest Partner Family

Tamara and her four children

Tamara is the newest partner family with Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County. She is a single mother of four: three sons and one daughter. However, her daughter, who has special needs, lives separately and is not able to stay in the home with Tamara and her sons. Tamara expressed her excitement about the prospect of having her daughter back with her once they move into their new Habitat home.

When asked if she was familiar with Habitat before applying for the Home Build Program, Tamara mentioned that she learned about it through her oldest son’s friend, who is also a Habitat partner family. She knew about the ReStore and recognized that donating is one way to support Habitat.

Currently, Tamara and her sons are living with family members due to the rising cost of housing in the community. She eagerly anticipates the day when she and her children can play in their own yard, have barbecues, invite friends and family over, and have “something of my own.” Tamara, along with her family and friends, has worked alongside Habitat’s construction crew and volunteers to build her new home. As part of the sweat equity hours required of partner families, she has been actively involved in the construction process, gaining insight into what it takes to build a home.

Tamara shared that she is ready to experience the stability of homeownership, even though she initially thought it was something she could never achieve. She is proud to be making it happen herself. Her children are also excited about having their own rooms and space.
