Habitat Heroes & Hope
On November 8th we held our Habitat Heroes & Hope event to honor donors, sponsors, and volunteers who put in countless hours during our Home Build ‘The Houses that Women Built.’
During the Wills Road home build we built 2 homes for two deserving partner families. We can not thank everyone how had a hand in the process and are excited to hold this event for many, many years to come!
Groundbreaking at Pronghorn Crossing!
Pronghorn Crossing is the latest affordable housing development by Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County, located in a growing neighborhood in Cheyenne. This project will see the construction of 12 new homes for families in need. It will be our largest development to date, with all 12 homes set to be built in just one year!
The land for Pronghorn Crossing was generously donated by Leaning Tree Homes in 2020, but development was delayed until the City of Cheyenne received $1.8 million in infrastructure funding through the state’s Unmet Housing Needs grant. With infrastructure scheduled to be built in 2025, Habitat is moving forward to create safe, affordable housing and strengthen the community through homeownership. Reach out if you're interested in volunteering, donating, or corporate sponsorships!
Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County is proud to recognize Representative Trey Sherwood
Cheyenne, WY — Habitat for Humanity of Laramie County is proud to recognize Representative Trey Sherwood for her instrumental role in securing $5 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding to address unmet housing needs across Wyoming, which included support for infrastructure development at Pronghorn Crossing. Her advocacy for the 2023 Unmet Housing Needs bill ensured critical funding to address infrastructure costs; one of the largest barriers to building affordable housing.
Habitat of Laramie County acquired the land for Pronghorn Crossing in 2020 through a generous donation by Leaning Tree Homes. However, the high costs of infrastructure development rendered the project financially unfeasible until this state funding became available. Without financial assistance, the homes would need to be sold around $400,000 each just to break even. This is a price point far beyond the reach of many families in need of affordable housing. These high costs illustrate why many developers hesitate to tackle projects like this, as they must balance infrastructure expenses with the ability to make a profit.
Now, with $1.8 million secured for infrastructure, Habitat has broken ground at Pronghorn Crossing and will construct 12 affordable homes on the site, ensuring families in the community have an opportunity to achieve affordable homeownership.
In recognition of her commitment to addressing Wyoming’s housing crisis, Habitat of Laramie County honored Representative Sherwood as a Habitat Hero. Her collaboration with developers and municipalities has paved the way for projects like Pronghorn Crossing, demonstrating the power of public-private partnerships in creating vibrant, inclusive communities.

Meet Emily and family: Habitat's new partner family
The windows of Emily and Scott’s home are covered with blankets. They leak when it rains, are drafty when it's cold, rattle when it's windy, and the view is of other aging mobile homes, in similar condition to theirs.
